AZERBAIJANI AMERICAN WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION

About Us

Azerbaijani American Women’s Association (AAWA) was founded in November 2006 upon the initiative of a handful of Azerbaijani women residing in California.

Run as a non-profit membership association, AAWA is governed by the council of three officers. President and two Vice-Presidents are elected members of the Council.

AAWA focuses on the following core objectives:

· To increase awareness of Azerbaijan and its current issues in the international community through participating in various global and regional activities, promoting international cooperation and solidarity of people and organizations committed to achieving the same goal.

· To address issues of Azerbaijani women and to work towards sustainable development of women’s rights through connecting, mobilizing and informing women living in Azerbaijan, US and around the world to enhance their collective action.

· To continually increase our knowledge, extend our expertise and to strengthen our abilities to better serve our community though cooperation and experience sharing with other ethnic, regional and national women’s organizations.

· To create an extensive collection of both informational and tangible resources that will be used with transparency, accountability and fairness to make them available upon need to Azerbaijani women, children or other vulnerable groups.

· To strive for integrity and excellence in all of our work.

Many of us, here at AAWA, are mothers and wives, balancing between professional duties, family lives and school responsibilities. But what truly brings us together is our unconditional love to our motherland, Azerbaijan; our understanding of importance of promoting women’s issues and rights; our preference for actions over words and, finally, our decisiveness in taking those actions.

The philosophy that we share here at AAWA is that if you cannot make a difference in one person’s life, then it does not matter if you claim yourself as concerned with the fates of entire nations.

Our goal is to not turn down anybody who contacts AAWA for help or information, but the help will be provided only based on the resource accessibility. If the resources are not available to provide specific advise or counseling, we are aiming at being able to refer you to other organizations that maybe able to provide those services.

AAWA is a newly established organization that is growing every day encompassing in its membership women of different professional and educational backgrounds, age and nationality. Our work extends globally through AAWA’s international connections. We encourage you to visit AAWA’s website periodically to read news about our upcoming projects and current activities.
